Time Magezine 100 Most Influential of 2010

Every year Time Magazine has an event where they like to acknowledge who they have selected to be the 100 most influential people in the world. The event began in 1999 when Time named the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. The issue was such a hit that in 2004 it officially became an annual event.

Time has four categories for the selection process which are: Leaders, Heros, Artists and Thinkers. The magazine then makes selections within those categories of most influential.

This year’s event was on Wednesday, May 5th 2010 at the Lincoln Center in NYC. It was a big event including big names such as Taylor Swift, Donatella Versace, Sarah Palin, Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, Martha Stwart, Elton John, Neil Patrick Harris and Oprah (who made the 20th century cut and each annual selection since 04’).

The night’s event was most certainly a hit and to see the full list you can pick up an issue or go to Time Magazine site for more details:

Bada Bing Obama

This past weekend was the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner which was held on Saturday, May 1st, 2010 at the Washington Hilton Hotel. The Correspondents’ Dinner first began on February 25, 1914 with it continuing annually for almost a century thus far.

This years’ dinner was a hit for several reasons. The primary being that for the first time in 96 years the dinner was geared as an eco-friendly event. The White House Correspondents’ Association made sure that they would reduce the carbon impact of the event. Their actions included renewable energies for the event, with paper products, supplies and services. They also attempted to encourage those attending to show up in either hybrid cars or even car-pooling.

The second reason which made the dinner such a hit was the discovery that President Obama could be quite the comedian. Although Jay Leno was the suppose to be the host and comedic attraction of the night it seemed that President Obama had more than a few tricks up his sleeve.

I think that after his speech Leno might be contemplating hiring better writers for his material after Saturday night's response to his performance.

I specifically titled this article Bada Bing Obama because the President had the audience entertained and laughing throughout his entire speech. He took some really good swings at some specifics such as, Jay Leno, Jersey Shore, Eric Massa, and Politico. For a person who has certainly made great strides within his two years in office, President Obama showed that he isn’t all work and no play. He absolutely has a sense of humor even going as far as quoting Biden’s coercion for his attendance. Obama states Biden had come to him saying
“Mr. President this is no ordinary dinner. This is a big *beep*ing meal!”
Following President Obama, who apparently did not have a dry seat in the house, was Mr. Jay Leno! It was apparent that following Obama did not work out too well in Lenos favor. For any that watched the dinner Leno had to pull teeth to get some chuckles and even those were not in comparison to the Presidents'. We blatently saw Leno struggling to get some good laughs out of the audience. He himself even mentions during his speech that it was a tough crowd!

Overall the Correspondents’ Dinner was a success and lots of stars made sure that they didn’t miss it.

A portion of the stars that attended the event are Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, Jessica Simpson, The Jonas Brothers, Bradley Cooper, Scarlett Johansson, Cash Warren, Jessica Alba, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Queen Latifah, Steven Spielberg, Michelle Pfeiffer and the list goes on.

The dinner was certainly a hit this year for all who attended. If anyone didn’t have a chance to watch it, the video is online at the White House Correspondents’ Association Website (WHCA) and here is the direct link where you can find the video: http://www.whca.net/dinner.htm

Finally Jersey Receives Better Recognition Than “The Jersey Shore”

On Sunday the infamous Garden State had inducted a few celebrities into its third annual New Jersey Hall of Fame ceremony. Some of the stars that were inducted are Susan Sarandon, Jack Nicholson, Judy Blume and Danny DeVito. Those are only some amongst the 15 who were inducted in the hall of fame on Sunday.

The event was held at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. The ceremony even included stars to present the awards such as, Buzz Aldrin, Joe Pesci and Bruce Springsteen. The candidates that were selected were chosen by experts in five categories that included general, arts and entertainment, sports and enterprise. There was also voting for the Hall of Fame on njhalloffame.org for the public to select their choices. The Hall of Fame is planning to open a temporary exhibit in Asbury Park this summer. What’s even better about all of this is the rest of the United States now knows Jersey has a little more to offer than what it recently depicted on the “Jersey Shore”.

Lynn "Legend" Redgrave 1943-2010

Publicist Rick Miramontez has released to press that the British film and stage actress Lynn Redgrave died Sunday night at her apartment in New York. She was 67 years old. Lynn’s death followed not even a month after her older brother, Corin Redgrave, which occurred on April 6. Her death was apparently due to breast cancer which she had been in an on-going battle with for the past 7 years.

Lynn was most well known for her starring in the 1960’s films “Georgy Girl” which earned her the New York Film Critics Award and “Gods and Monsters” both of which she received Oscar Nominations for. As we all know those two films are just tiny morsels of her career. As she flourished and was featured in many films as recent as “My Dog Tulip” in 2009 and even many recent TV Shows such as “Ugly Betty” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”. She had even recently been inducted at the 39th Annual Theater Hall of Fame ceremony which had been held on January 25 in the Gershwin Theatre's North Rotunda.

On Lynn’s homepage she quotes:
“I am proud to be part of a family of actors, embracing as it does more than five generations..."

My heart goes out to the Redgrave Family for the recent tragedies to the Redgrave Dynasty and the demise of a cherished actress. Lynn’s mark in theater will always be remembered!

And Another One Bites the Dust...or in this case Sandra Bullock

As we all know the gorgeous Sandra Bullock has been having a roller-coaster ride with recent incidents occurring in correlation to her love life. Like we haven’t seen enough drama with celebrities and their scandalous “double lives”!

That’s right! There have been recent rumors that Jesse James, her husband of five years, has been following down the same path as our recent notorious cheater Tiger Woods. They’re certainly giving Tiger a break, which I can imagine he is relieved about! The rumors with Jesse began when a so-called Michelle “Bombshell” McGee revealed that she and the star have had sexual relations for the past 11 Months.

McGee is a tattoo obsessed model and stripper who apparently told tabloids she initially made contact through Myspace about a modeling job on the show West Coast Choppers. This then followed up with a meeting where “Bombshell” McGee had driven to James’ West Coast Chopper bike shop in Long Beach. When she spoke with James apparently he wanted more than just to do business with her and pursued with sexual aspirations. She claims that she was unaware of Bullock and James being married because James had been telling her that the two were separated.

Although McGee apologizes to Bullock through tabloids I think we can all agree the damage is done. What began as a simple request through the internet soon grew into today’s current big scandal. Tabloids are now saying that Bullock has plans to get divorced from Jesse James. She has even already proceeded relocating herself and her new son, Louis, to his original hometown in New Orleans. On Thursday April 29th the moving trucks arrived at Bullock’s lavish $2.25 million, five-bedroom mansion in New Orleans and unpacked all of her belongings. Although Bullock and Louis were nowhere to be seen I am sure they aren’t too far behind!

I guess the least I can say is good for her for not putting up with it! Maybe she was the additional inspirational boost which finally slapped Elin Nordegren in the face to finally ask for her divorce as well!
Thanks for reading, until next time…

Beginnings of Beth's Babble

Why Beth's Babble?
Hey everyone! My name is Beth Cefalu and this is Beth’s Babble. In other words, it’s my celebrity blog I created so I can share my own recaps of the celebrity world and all the gossip that goes along with it. Growing up all I knew was that whatever career I chose needed to be one that would keep me on my feet. A 9-5 desk job certainly wouldn’t be the ideal life for me; it would be more like HELL! I have always been an extremely outgoing, social, and driven student. After years of careful consideration *bam* it hit me! Broadcasting!

Why Broadcasting?
I believe that broadcast journalism is an unremarkable field that’s constantly changing and I would love to be apart of the forever-growing entity that is media. To be a TV broadcaster to me would be such an amazing career because I would have the power to converse to millions of people. Depending on which field I chose, I could communicate and stress important issues or even help inspire my audience on a daily basis. What more of a gregarious career could I choose than one where I would be required to be on my feet to keep up with the daily changes and curve balls that I am thriving for? Media is a means of communication to converse information and influence a wide range of people. It is the basis which links individuals or groups to their societies to make sense of everyday life. I really thought to myself and realized that by being a broadcaster I would be able to directly link myself to people all over the country and have a chance to make a difference.

Why Celebrity Gossip?

Now that I narrowed it down to a career I had but only one thing left! That is, my choice of broadcast genre. The choice of Celebrity Gossip was an almost impulse decision following broadcasting. There is nothing more fascinating to me than culture itself. As a student I can only afford so much traveling but whenever I did it was outside the US. All I wanted was to explore different cultures and civilizations other than the one I am accustomed to. My original major even before I chose broadcasting was Spanish because I truly enjoyed learning the culture in and out. To be able to follow and discuss not only the most successful people in the country but some of the most talented that are shaping our culture on a daily basis would be and incredible opportunity. Celebrities have such an amazing grasp over societies and regularly have a strong influence on anything they come into contact with. They live such fast paced lives that we cannot even attempt to dream about, but I am certainly up for the challenge of exploring all it has to offer. There is always something new occurring with constant drama to follow. My perfect career would be one where I would be constantly faced with new challenges everyday and Celebrity Gossip is certainly that! I am absolutely fascinated by this and all that celebrities stand for which is why I know that I would love and be most successful in this genre of broadcasting!
